Dr. Cheryl A. Luis

 

Dr. Cheryl A. Luis is board-certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) in Clinical Neuropsychology. Neuropsychology is a specialty area of psychology that focuses on cerebral activities and human behavior.

Dr. Luis was one of the first graduates of Nova Southeastern University’s Neuropsychology Specialization Program.

Board certification by the ABPP signifies the highest level of competence in the field. Presently there are less than 50 ABPP Neuropsychologists in the State of Florida.

Her expertise is in the assessment of brain-related abilities, including:

  • Learning

  • Memory

  • Language

  • Problem solving

  • Planning

  • Spatial skills

  • Personality

  • Emotional functioning

Dr. Luis is widely published in the areas of brain injury, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, biomarkers for cognitive dysfunction, and cognitive screening measures. She has been collaborating with colleagues at the Roskamp Institute for over a decade and currently serves as the clinic’s neuropsychologist.

Dr. Luis has served on numerous national and state committees including State of Florida Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative Committee (chairperson and Legislative sub-committee chair); American Psychological Association (APA) Division 40 Women in Neuropsychology (WIN chair), Scientific Advisory Committee, and Annual Program Committee; and the National Standards Advisory Board for High School Psychology Curricula in Biopsychology. She is currently a consulting editor for The Clinical Neuropsychologist and is the incoming program chair for the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN) National Committee.

Dr. Luis’ practice involves assessment of cognitive functions in adults with known or suspected brain disease or injury, psychological support services for patients or their caregivers, Independent Neuropsychological or Psychological Evaluations, peer-review, forensic consultation, and expert testimony.
